Founding Team

Ming Xu

Dr. Ming Xu is the Founder and Chairman of Nanjing Powerland Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. A globally recognized authority in power electronics and energy management, Dr. Xu previously served as an Associate Professor and Chief Scientist at the Center for Power Electronics Systems (CPES) at Virginia Tech—often cited as the "cradle of power electronics research." In 2009, he returned to China to found Powerland, anchoring the company's core technical team with elite professionals from CPES. Under his strategic vision, Powerland has evolved over the past decade into a premier high-tech enterprise specializing in cutting-edge power conversion R&D and manufacturing. Dr. Xu earned his Ph.D. from Zhejiang University, holds over 60 U.S. patents, and has contributed extensively to the field with three monographs and more than 150 published papers.

Partner teams

In 2009, Dr. Ming Xu founded Powerland Electronics alongside four fellow PhDs from the renowned Voltage Regulator Module (VRM) research team at Virginia Tech's Center for Power Electronics Systems (CPES): Julu Sun, Yang Qiu, Juanjuan Sun, and Chuanyun Wang. This "founding five" had already established a deep-rooted collaboration during their tenure in the United States—a partnership that has now spanned over 25 years. Their collective research remains foundational to the industry; today, nearly every CPU power supply solution worldwide is built upon the breakthroughs achieved by this core group. Over the 17 years since Powerland's inception, the leadership has further strengthened with the addition of partners Ms. Lihong Xu, Mr. Yuan Yao, Mr. Jukui Wei, and Mr. Jianbing Xu.

In June 2020, the world's smallest and thinnest mobile phone charger-biscuit charger was successfully developed, leading the new trend of fast charging products

In January 2019, after passing the IATF16949 system certification of automobile level, Boland became a company with complete and advanced system, international vision and global operation
In 2019, complete round B financing
The world’s tiniest 65W USB-C QC/PD new-generation “Lipstick” GaN adapter was launched, pushing the high power density adapter to a new limit.
The world’s most compact 3.3/6.6kW DC/DC PPUTM series (Power Processing Unit) for fuel cell systems was developed.

2018

In May 2018, a world-class high-end power supply manufacturing factory was established: Changzhou Qipu
In October 2018, the 65W "lipstick" power supply recognized as the most exquisite design in the industry was launched and won the "Red Dot" design award
The world’s first 3.3kW on-board charging PPUTM (Power Processing Unit) was developed.
The industry’s most compact 840W “Black Blade” series Li-Ion battery standard chargers was introduced.

2017

In December 2017, the company's revenue exceeded 100 million yuan and completed the A+round of financing
The world's highest power density and most cost-effective solar micro inverter was developed, and the series applied in solar power plant, energy storage, and smart grid field.
The world's highest efficiency 640W LED drivers was born, achieving world’s unprecedented efficiency with 97%.

2016

In December 2016, Break Even and achieved round A financing. Bolande implements the partnership system to realize employee shareholding

2013

In February 2013, the customized power supply for LED display with the smallest volume, the highest efficiency and the best reliability in the industry was developed and fully used on the CCTV Spring Festival Gala stage
In October 2013, the company established its own supply chain and Jiangxi factory

2011

In August 2011, the world's smallest portable laptop adapter was developed

2010

In 2010, a post-doctoral mobile station was established
In July 2010, based on patented technology, the world's most efficient desktop power supply was launched, and the world's "80 plus" white gold industry standard for desktop power supply was established;

School-enterprise Cooperation

Powerland University Cooperation initiative is built on three parts: collaborative research projects, post-doctoral research station, and on-site PhD programs

1. Global Research Partnerships

Since 2007, Powerland has cooperated with top universities in China and United States, including Virginia Tech, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Xi'an Jiaotong University and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. These cooperation continue to develop and form long-term innovation system

2. Post-Doctoral & Doctoral Excellence

In 2009, Powerland was approved as post-doctoral research station in Jiangsu Province, providing good benefits and research environment for PhD graduates. CEO Dr. Ming Xu also serves as guest professor at Xi'an Jiaotong University and NUAA, guiding PhD students and connecting theory with industrial application

3. Specialized Education & Training

Dr. Ming Xu together with CPES alumni from Virginia Tech developed fundamental courses and workshops for power supply design engineers. These courses are based on solid theory and include research results from CPES team. CPES is well known engineering research center, and its technologies such as multi-phase concept and coupled inductor are widely used in industry
